The Seed Vault Series is Far North’s collection of estate-grown rye varietals, evolving from the distillery’s three-year rye study. This provenance-driven, single estate rye whiskey is grown, harvested, and distilled entirely in Northern Minnesota by fourth-generation farmer and head distiller Michael Swanson.
All varieties were milled, fermented, and distilled using precisely the same methods, and all whiskies were aged in 15-gallon new, charred oak barrels from The Barrel Mill in Avon, MN.
Roknar 100% Seed Vault is aged just under two years.
SEED VAULT VARIETALS 2020
ROKNAR is a single estate rye whiskey born of grain grown and harvested by head distiller Michael Swanson.
Aged for a minimum of 4 years in 53-gallon charred oak barrels and bottled at 100 proof.
With a mash bill of 80% rye, 10% corn and 10% malt barley, Far North aims to establish MINNESOTA RYE as a regional style in the spirit of Pennsylvania and Maryland-style ryes.
They seeded AC Hazlet rye for this Roknar on Section 4 in the fall of 2015. It overwintered in brutally cold temperatures with little snow cover. The following summer, they harvested an unexpected bumper crop. It was distilled and barreled in February 2018.
Bottled in bond occupies a rarefied place in the whiskey world. 100 proof. Four years old. Distilled in a single season by a single distiller.
